📜 Origin & History

Buchteln originate from Bohemian cuisine and spread via the Habsburg monarchy to Bavaria, Austria, Swabia and the Palatinate, where they are also called Ofennudeln or Rohrnudeln. The airy yeast dough is closely related to the steamed Dampfnudel and Germknödel, but is baked in the oven instead of steamed. In Bavarian inns and monastery kitchens they remain a beloved sweet dish.
